The Studio Pod story

Two photographers. One problem. A patented answer.

Chris Bailey and Joseph West spent years shooting corporate headshots in Houston. The work was good. The workflow around it was painful for everyone - the photographer, the company, the subjects. So they started asking what would happen if the photographer disappeared from the equation entirely.

  • The problem the founders kept hitting. Year after year, a business hires different photographers - creating consistent photos of a team that unifies a brand becomes nearly impossible. Scheduling, rescheduling, traveling to a studio, disrupting the office for an on-location day - inconvenient for employees, costly for the business.
  • The "there must be a better way" moment. "I kept asking myself, there must be a better way," Chris explains. "I envisioned a photo station, with light panels that mimicked how I often would light my professional portraits." The lighting recipe came first; the hardware came second.
  • The first pod, May 2018. Studio Pod was officially born after lots of testing and several prototypes. The patented multi-source DMX lighting rig is the centerpiece - invented because a decade of corporate shoot days had taught the founders that single-source lighting puts shadows under every subject's eyes.
  • Eight years in, 300K+ headshots. The system now runs across eight permanent walk-in studios in Texas, Illinois, and California, plus a nationwide fleet of ten portable Roadie units that ship UPS to any US venue. Same hardware, same lighting recipe, same image standard from a $50 walk-in session to a Fortune-100 corporate refresh.
  • Still Houston-built. Every pod is designed, assembled, and serviced in Houston by the team that runs the eight walk-in studios. The founders still take portraits in them. You can walk into the Blossom Street location on a Saturday and see the people who built the thing.
